In recent years, licorice series extracts have been more and more widely used in medicine, food additives, and cosmetic additives industries. Knowing more about licorice will help us to better study and apply it. One of the main components of licorice extract is "gastric ketone", which has been used to treat diseases such as gastric ulcers. A new test by British medical researchers shows that a compound extracted from licorice can effectively improve memory in the elderly. In the new trial, researchers gave the drug three times a day for four weeks to older men between the ages of 55 and 75. Twelve of them had type 2 diabetes and had varying degrees of memory impairment, but after a few weeks, tests showed that all participants had improved word memory by about 10 percent.
The study leader, Professor Jonathan Seco of the University of Edinburgh, said that although the effect was not very obvious, the memory of these elderly people definitely improved than before taking the drug. He believes that in the next five years, people can try to use this compound to help the elderly improve memory, and even potentially treat diseases such as Alzheimer's. He said that there are many ways to improve memory that have shown good results in animal experiments, but once you move to the clinical trial stage, there will be various obstacles. "And this time at least in small-scale human trials, we got preliminary The data suggest that this compound is a good candidate."
